Fujishima Illumination 2025 — Stanley Electric Lights Up the Community in Tsuruoka, Yamagata
Lighting Equipment
Bringing Warmth and Light to Tsuruoka
Every winter, the Fujishima area in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, hosts a beautiful event called “Fujishima Illumination,” it is the largest winter illumination event in the Shonai region. This year, from November 2 to January 12, the town is filled with sparkling lights, creating a magical atmosphere for everyone.
This year's theme is "Hoshi☆Fuji ~ Your Heart Yohaku~". Enchanting lights envelop the Fujishima area, delivering a special night to visitors.
Starting this year, our company participated in this event, illuminating the Fujishima Government Building parking lot, the pathway from the parking lot to the "Hisuka" venue, the park paths, the Higashitagawa Cultural Memorial Hall, and providing light-based directional signage.

"Hisuka" Workshop Leader: Natsu Inoue
Ms. Inoue
Thank you for coming all the way to Tsuruoka.
It's raining today, but thanks to that, the illumination lights are reflecting in the puddles, making them sparkle even more than usual. I'm sure the lighting ceremony will be a special and wonderful day precisely because of the rain.
―
Thank you for installing our products throughout the entire park.
I know you're busy before the lighting ceremony, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts. What kind of group is the "Hisuka" workshop that you belong to, Ms. Inoue?
Ms. Inoue
We are a group of 38 people, made up of local residents who came together to revitalize Fujishima, and students from Professor Abe's seminar at Daito Bunka University, who have been researching the Fujishima area for many years. Our dream is to make Fujishima a town where people say, "Fujishima is amazing!" inspired by the illuminations. Amidst an aging population, we also wish to create a town where children and young people will want to live in the future. Our youngest member is a high school student, and junior high school volunteers help with sign production and serving as staff on the day of the event. Having the younger generation join us is truly encouraging.
―
You can really feel the deep affection for the local community. Seeing so many student volunteers here today, you can sense the unified power of the younger generation working together for the area.
What's the theme for this year's illuminations?
Ms. Inoue
This year's theme was proposed by students from Daito Bunka University. "Precisely because we live in an era where we can easily connect via social media, we want to cherish the act of exchanging words and facing ourselves. We aim to deliver a gentle, calming space where visitors on this special night of illumination can confront their own inner space."
With this sentiment in mind, we've designed the entire park. There are many photo spots created with care by our members, including a red telephone box for conveying your innermost thoughts and illuminations featuring stars, this year's theme. Please be sure to take photos there.
―
The sentiment behind the theme is truly wonderful.
I understand this is the 8th year. How have the reactions of visitors changed over the years?
Ms. Inoue
We're delighted that so many people come every year and look forward to winter in Fujishima. Recently, we've started seeing license plates from outside the prefecture, which makes us feel this is gaining attention beyond the local area. Thanks to the support of so many people, we've been able to continue, and this year we even received a special letter of appreciation from Tsuruoka City.
―
It's amazing how it's spreading, with people coming from outside the prefecture. We're also very happy that our products are being used in such an event filled with the spirit of the region. What were your impressions after actually using our products?
Ms. Inoue
The color rendering is excellent and powerful—it truly felt like a "super floodlight" (laughs). Stanley Electric's lighting made the venue's atmosphere even more vibrant. It was also incredibly helpful in areas beyond the illuminations where lighting couldn't be installed before, like illuminating arrows on dark, dangerous paths.
―
For this illumination, we used the GOLD floodlight to recreate a golden glow distinct from the usual memorial hall. Its waterproof design ensures reliability outdoors, and the even light beautifully highlights the building.
Could you tell us why you reached out to our company this time?
Ms. Inoue
I have fond memories of visiting the Stanley Electric factory during an elementary school town exploration trip. I'll never forget that experience of receiving a light bulb and turning the light on and off. Since we share a connection through light, I've wanted to collaborate with you for a long time. I'm truly delighted this long-awaited collaboration has finally come to fruition.
―
For over 50 years since the founding of the former Stanley Tsuruoka Manufacturing Plant, we've continued manufacturing in the Fujishima area. We've always valued our connection to the community, so we're truly glad we could collaborate this time.
There's also a lantern workshop today. How would you like people to enjoy it?
Ms. Inoue
Thank you for organizing the lantern-making event. I was thrilled when I heard, "You're doing it?!" It would be wonderful if participants could hold their own lanterns in their hands during the lighting moment.
―
It would be wonderful to see Fujishima illuminated by so many lights.
Finally, could you share a message for our visitors?
Ms. Inoue
Large-scale illuminations can be found anywhere. But I want you to come see the warm illuminations that can only be experienced in Fujishima. Please come even if you're from outside the prefecture. The park is filled with sparkle—handmade original illuminations, wisteria flower illuminations using the large wisteria trellis, an 8-meter-tall tree, and more. Every spot is a recommended photo spot! The light reflecting on the water on rainy days and the illuminations seen in the snow are also truly special!!
