Introduction

Pokémon Global Academy is an after-school education class facility that provides elementary school students with an enjoyable and educational time and space where they can encounter new learning opportunities based on the Shogakukan Group’s long-standing expertise in after-school education class.
The academy conducts activities that nurture children’s ability to take initiative, be proactive, creative, and cooperative through a variety of programs.
We visited the classroom in Tama Plaza three years ago.
More recently, we had the opportunity to talk with a faculty member at the Miyazakidai Classroom about the use of multi-color LED lantern making kits and LED graphic units.

Thank you for using our multi-color LED lantern making kits and LED graphic units as teaching aids.
Kana Takeuchi
Thank you for visiting our classroom today.
The LEDs used in the lantern kits are highly reliable products. They have traditionally been used in home appliances, automobiles, and amusement-related products.
The LED graphic unit is a small lamp that displays a variety of graphical images in a focus-free manner.
Could you please tell me how these products are being used in your educational programs?
Kana Takeuchi
We provide educational programs that help children develop real-world skills for living as active members of society after graduating from school.
The Quest Program is one of our various educational programs.
It is a hands-on mission-based program with a different theme each month. Students research the mysteries of everyday life and get to experience what it is like to develop new products and write business proposals.
We were happy to introduce Stanley Electric’s products to this program.

Our products were also used as teaching aids three years ago.
Could you tell me the reason why you decided to use our products again after three years?
Kana Takeuchi
Last time, we mainly used your LED floodlights, and we received really good feedback from the children and their parents.
One of our goals is to encourage children to stop and think for a moment about their everyday lives.
Because lighting is so prevalent in our daily lives, it is only natural for children to take it for granted.
It is one of those things that they hardly ever think about, much less question how it works.
This program was designed to encourage students to question and explore everyday lighting from a slightly different perspective.
This is why we decided to contact Stanley Electric again. We thought your products would be perfect for our program.

We would be very happy if our products are helping children explore the world.
What kind of things do you have to keep in mind when creating these types of programs?
Kana Takeuchi
We want children to be able to take the initiative while having fun.
We always try to think about things from the perspective of children.
We really like it when children can hold actual products in their hands and learn from them, like they can in this program.
When creating programs, we also focus on how to introduce experiences that bring children into contact with the things of the real world.
In this program, students are learning through trial and error by experimenting with how colors change when they are mixed with other colors, and how to design lights and apply them in their daily lives.
They really seem to enjoy the color changes of multi-color LEDs.

I have been impressed by Pokémon Global Academy’s dedication to cultivating children’s spirit of inquiry and exploration.
I heard that this is your fourth year working at Pokémon Global Academy. Could you tell me about some of your most rewarding moments?
Kana Takeuchi
Of course, I love it when the children say that they had fun and want to do it again.
I feel rewarded when children gain new insights, and when they voluntarily apply themselves to learn new things after attending one of our programs.
I am sure that they’ll be saying that they want to use your LED lanterns again and again.
We would be so happy to hear the excitement in the children’s voices.
We are looking forward to hearing about all the new ways the children conceived of using LEDs.
Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to share such valuable information.
We had the opportunity to hear from the children who took the program.
Students’ Voice

“I didn’t know that I could mix colors to make new colors.”
“I learned some things in this program that I wasn’t taught in school.”
“I like things that light up. It was fun combining the colors and seeing them turn white.”
The children in the class enjoyed drawing pictures of Pokémon on the lantern kit and forming lantern shapes, and were curious about how colors could change, especially when overlapping the red crab and green bird road projection lamps.
