Stanley Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 2-9-13 Nakameguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasuaki Kaizumi) has developed a granular surface-emitting rear lamp that improves visibility and enhances safety for following vehicles.

Rear visibility is crucial for nighttime driving safety. Our new rear lamp delivers high visibility, striking design, and environmental consideration, and it has already been adopted to mass-produced vehicles. Verification tests confirmed that the improved visibility contributes to greater safety.

This lamp simplifies the conventional design—replacing dozens of LEDs with a single high-lumen, replaceable LED socket. Light diffuses evenly through a custom-designed light guide and enhanced with a granular sparkle effect for greater visibility. As a sustainable product, it also reduces the number of components, helping to lower costs and minimize environmental impact.

1. Improve Visibility: Ergonomically designed optics with precision-cut inner lenses that create a brilliant sparkle

The lamp uses dual-layer structure with precision optical cuts on both sides of the inner lenses. When illuminated, it creates a sparkling granular glow. As the viewer moves, the shimmering light points shift slightly, making the lamp more noticeable. In testing, motorcycles equipped with this lamp were detected approximately 2 seconds earlier by drivers of following vehicles compared to conventional surface-emitting rear lamps. This earlier detection allows for smoother deceleration, reducing the need for sudden braking and lowering the risk of rear-end collisions.

2. Enhanced Design: Uniform Light Diffusion Using Light Guide Rod × Surface Emission Technology

Conventional wide rear lamps required numerous LEDs to ensure even lighting. In contrast, this lamp uses a high-lumen LED socket paired with a light guide rod, transmitting light efficiently across the lamp. Special optical cuts on the back of the rod enable both uniform light distribution and high brightness all the way to the edges.

Compared to our previous models, which achieved uniform illumination up to 10 mm in height, the newly developed lamp achieves consistent light diffusion up to 30 mm in height (Stanley internal benchmark). This advancement allows for flexible application across a wider range of lamp designs and sizes—from slim motorcycle lamps to larger automobile rear lamps.
